Virgo New Moon
The Virgin Goddess, wholeness, inner divinity, and sovereignty.
On September 14th / 15th at 2:39am BST we have our New Moon in Virgo peaking for a new lunar cycle to begin. This is the last New Moon before the Autumn Equinox and before Eclipse Season begins. Our cosmic skies are also very busy with six planets in retrograde and this combining energy may have us feeling unsettled in ourselves and unsure of what to do next. This auspicious timing makes this New Moon our foundation point for the coming months.
A New Moon happens once a month and can be used as a comic gift, a reset if you will, aiding you to check in with yourself. Checking in with any intentions you would like to grow in relation to your goals and dreams, or perhaps any new habits you would like to develop this is the time to honour these callings as she moves towards her fullness so do the seeds you wish to grow.
As we are human beings and created with 70% of water, it is only normal for us to feel the effects of the Moon closely, just like the tides.
We are all so unique and different that a Moon cycle will affect us differently along with our cycles. As the New Moon is the dark side of the Moon, it is common to feel a little more introspective, wanting to retreat, be at home in your comfys, and watch tv or perhaps read and meditate. But once the New Moon grows into her full brightness so does our energy and feelings and wanting to be more out in the public space. So allowing yourself the time and honour needs is perfectly okay, often this is frowned upon in a fast-paced life but connecting back to our natural rhythms is so important.
In ancient times, the Moon was observed to change over a 29-day period that coincided with a woman's reproductive cycle. The ancients observed how the moon affected the tides and by tracking it alongside the sun, they developed calendars to predict agricultural rhythms. The Sun was the life-giving force, but the Moon played an important role in predicting rainfall. In this way, the moon inspired culture for the ancients, when hunter and gatherers established civilisations centred on planting and harvesting.
By connecting back to our ancient ways of being and living closer to the rhythms of nature we can connect better to ourselves.
In astrology, the Moon is associated with the subconscious and our instinctive, unconscious behaviour. Its cycles can be used to blend both the tangible and intangible. Working with lunar cycles allows us to intentionally engage our feeling nature, and how it unconsciously helps us with the law of attraction. Just like dreams, what cannot be accomplished during the day can be given over to our larger bodies while we sleep and rest in the evenings.
Virgo is a grounded earth sign that is represented by the Virgin Goddess, which is a symbol of wholeness, inner divinity, and sovereignty. The Virgin Goddess that rules Virgo is not attached to anyone, in charge of her own life, and fully connected to the divine power that lives within her.
We can use the energies of the Virgin Goddess to guide us through this New Moon time, and to remind ourselves that everything we need is within. No matter what happens, the Virgin Goddess knows she will be ok. She knows that she will find the strength, wisdom, and knowledge to move through whatever comes her way.
Virgo season is a time to find balance between who we could become and who we are right now.
Virgo reminds us that if we are always comparing ourselves to our ideal version, then we will never experience true happiness. However, if we stop growing and striving to become a better version of ourselves, we stagnate and become unhappy within our lives and project onto others.
As we work with Virgo season, we are becoming aware of the conditions we place on ourselves when it comes to love and acceptance. What impossible level of perfectionism are you holding yourself to and why? Begin to become aware that you are worthy of love, acceptance, and living a life of your fulfilled dreams. There is no such thing as perfect and that you are deserving of all the good things in life.
This is a time to become aware of the conditions we have placed on ourselves in how we view love, and how we believe we need to act to deserve it. As Virgo’s are very harsh and critical with themselves that can seep over to others, we need to be letting go of this which starts with how we view ourselves and the relationship with ourselves.
Begin asking yourself questions: What impossible level of perfectionism are you holding yourself to and why? Why do you think you are not deserving of love? What walls are you putting up to avoid hurt and pain? What are you projecting about yourself onto others?
Working with this New Moon in Virgo is helping you to set the tone of a new lunar cycle and what you would like to start bringing in. New mind shifts, self love and care, learning to accept your uniqueness and that your self worth is not based on the opinions of others. Of what you think they expect of you but rather cultivating and reaffirming what you have to offer. Remembering you deserve love, you deserve happiness, and you deserve to have people who accept you for who you are. These are not things you need to jump through hoops for. Rather, they are your birth right as a human.
Virgo is an earth sign, meaning it’s time to ground!
Remember that Virgo is an Earth sign so a need for grounding and routine in the world is what makes them feel stable and safe. If you don’t have any daily practices now is the time to begin feeling what you would like to introduce as a daily practice and ritual you can incorporate to help you feel more grounded and secure.
As we have many planets retrograde we maybe feel that life and certain situations have come to a complete standstill and unsure of how to move forward. There is a feeling of going inwards, getting us to be introspective and looking within ourselves allowing ourselves to look over things to ensure we fully understand where we have been, what we have been carrying around in order for ourselves to move forward. Think of the New Moon as a turning point, lighting up the old to welcome in the new path awaiting us.
With this planetary retrograde energy we can look at the feeling of being stuck or stagnant a welcome relief this moment of stagnation before not too long things will be moving forward. So, allow yourself to be slower and even perhaps be still, by taking this time, and you will be more well equipped to go with the forward energy.
On a more practical level, we can also channel the energies of the Virgo New Moon to plan, create a schedule, and get organised in our lives – taking more accountability. We can use its energy to take a practical and planned out approach to our tasks.
Uranus, the planet of awakening and change, is active under this New Moon, adding a layer of instability or shakiness to these energies. Whenever Uranus is strong, we can feel a little rattled or unsure of the future.
Along with Uranus, Neptune, the planet of dreams and illusions, is also active and retrograde too under this New Moon. Neptune’s presence can create a little fogginess for us, but will also be guiding us to listen to our inner wisdom. If we don’t understand or can’t make sense of our outside world, it’s a good time to go within and get clear on our inner world.
To add to the mix, Mercury will end its retrograde journey just one day after the peak of the New Moon. Mercury is considered the Messenger of the Gods, so pay attention to any messages that seem to come our way around this time. Chances are, the messages we receive around the New Moon may have some extra magic or importance to them.
To honour the New Moon here are a few ideas:
- Sit in meditation and connect to, Selena the Goddess of the Moon, and give gratitude for all the wisdom she provides, the life she gives, and how her cycles help us to grow and co-create our dreams and goals.
- Journaling whatever comes up for you in a nice quiet space
- Writing a list of gratitude
- Make a note of the dreams you are having as they may provide some insights for you
- Planting intentions of what you wish to bring in over the coming weeks and months
- A nice soothing bath to soothe the body and relax
- Charge your crystals up at night on a window sill or outside, or in the Earth
- Make some Moon water with an intention placed underneath for your own personal use
Sending you many New Moon blessings.
Much love and gratitude,
